Material: Marble surface, 6th century.
Dimensions: Total height 14.5 cm, length 50 cm, at eye level.

Description: The stavrogram features the Alpha and Omega beneath the crossarm, but on either side of it are peacocks facing towards it. The cross, which dominates the other elements in the composition, is a symbol of Christ Himself. The two peacocks, turned towards it, are depicted in profile and in a state of repose, with their contours and plumage rendered sparingly yet skillfully. The crest or crown on their heads is clearly visible. The tail, the most distinctive feature of this bird, has an elongated, teardrop shape, and its plumage is conveyed through several longitudinal lines.
Attribution: The scene illustrates that immortality and eternal life in Heaven are attained through faith in Christ.
